The
Whereabouts performed recently at the Hard Rock Cafe on Crescent
St. They have been playing regularly since 1997 at local venues like
Cafe Campus and the Caberet Showbar. The band has real upbeat
sound remenicient of Elvis Costello, one of the musicians they take
inspiration from. Led by front man Andrew MacNeill, who hails
from Ottawa on lead guitar and lead vocals and Patrick Curley out
of Jonquiere on rythm guitar and back up vocals, The Whereabouts
have a contemporary pop rock vibe. Daniel Cotnoir holds up
the bottom real well on base and Pierre Fontana, originally
from Grand Mere is solid on drums. Their smooth style
brings to mind The Clash, another of the the band’s
inspiritions. The Whereabouts will be performing at the
Canadian Music Week in Toronto February 28 at B-Sides followed by a gig at
Cameron March 1 and a performance for the new cable channel MTV Music
Canada. The opening tune “Shortwave” really rocked, as did
“He’s Not Me” and “I Fall in Love“. If you’re into a modern
Canadian light rock act, go catch The Whereabouts next show or
