If you remember the days of the classic TV show the Beverly Hillbillies, you will probably remember several appearances by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. These two are certainly responsible for my love of the banjo. At age 77, Bluegrass master Scruggs has just released a new CD. If you like toe stompin’ banjo jams with background instruments, such as the fiddle, steel, and acoustic guitar, then this bluegrass CD will be a great addition to your collection. An outstanding collection of “friends” joined in on the fun. Elton John, Dwight Yoakam, Billy Bob Thornton, Melissa Etheridge, Sting, Johnny Cash and a host of others play their own songs Bluegrass style. Even comedian Steve Martin plays a pretty mean banjo solo. The highlight of this CD is a song called “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”, which features a 13-piece ensemble first made famous by the late Flat, and Scruggs. This CD deserves to be a hit amongst Bluegrass fans everywhere.
